MetaLibrary & BookCoin Legacy Mode
Current Status
Following the significant contraction of the NFT market beginning in 2022 and as announced on Discord at the time, active development of the MetaLibrary project was paused.
As of today, MetaLibrary and the associated BookCoin NFT collections are operating in legacy mode.
The collections continue to exist on-chain and remain transferable through supported marketplaces. However, there is currently no active development roadmap, scheduled platform releases, ongoing community programming, or support.
Historical Context
BookCoin was founded around a simple belief: The future of written creative work will be meaningfully impacted by blockchain technology.
Our goal was never simply to create NFTs. We set out to explore how digital ownership, verifiable provenance, reader participation, and new forms of author engagement might create value for readers, writers, publishers, and collectors alike.
The NFT collections associated with MetaLibrary were launched during a period of significant experimentation and innovation across the digital asset ecosystem. Like many projects from that era, the long-term trajectory of the market changed substantially following the downturn that began in 2022.
While elements of the original vision were explored and certain initiatives were launched, the broader platform development ultimately became economically impractical to continue under prevailing market conditions.
Though the broader vision ultimately outpaced the realities of the market, we remain proud of what this community helped pioneer.
Among the milestones achieved during BookCoinโs active years:
- Helped bring one of the first New York Times bestselling books on-chain through The Subtle Art Collection.
- Introduced one of the earliest Read-to-Earn experiments through Jekyll & Hyde.
- Worked with authors, agents, and publishing teams to explore practical applications of blockchain technology within the literary world.
- Contributed to some of the earliest frameworks for bringing bestselling book intellectual property into Web3.
- Built one of the largest and most engaged communities focused on Book NFTs during the formative years of the space.
- Created MetaLibrary, an early marketplace dedicated to book-centric digital collectibles.
These achievements belong not only to the team, but to the readers, collectors, authors, and believers who helped bring them to life.
Looking Forward
The literary world continues to evolve. Artificial intelligence, digital ownership, creator economies, and emerging technologies are reshaping how stories are created, distributed, collected, and experienced.
While MetaLibrary is not currently under active development, the ideas that inspired it remain relevant and worthy of exploration.
Should future initiatives emerge, they would be announced independently.
Gratitude
To everyone who collected, participated, contributed, experimented, read, shared ideas, or simply believed alongside us: Thank you!
The community of collectors, readers, builders, authors, and supporters helped explore an idea that was ahead of its time and contributed to an important chapter in the evolution of digital ownership.
Whether this chapter ultimately proves early, incomplete, or simply ahead of its time, we remain grateful to have explored it together.
Thank you for being part of the journey!
